Didn't work for me but may work for you

This product did not work for me on a cycle with no fish. It worked for others though, so maybe something went wrong for me that I don't know about. I added this product to a 21 gallon reef tank with no fish. I've tried running the tank and speeding up the cycle (I've done traditional chemical-free cycles with girls in the past, etc.). I added dr. Tim added it and tried two different sources of ammonia over a period of several weeks, but neither produced any measurable nitrates or nitrites. I tested with two separate kits and all I ever saw was a big squirt of ammonia. I have attempted an overdose as the bottle and website recommend. The directions on the bottle are too minimal so I went to the website (as the bottle suggests) and read and followed them. That does not work. Ammonia splashes, yes; anything else that suggests a cycle is not. While cycling a tank is a fairly simple process, there are several ways you can screw it up. Maybe I messed something up and I don't know. Perhaps the first source of ammonia (various fish foods) did not produce enough ammonia to feed the nitrifying bacteria. But I'm not sure why the second source (pure ammonia) didn't work. Or maybe the burst of ammonia was so strong it killed the nitrifying bacteria. But if that's the case then I don't know why I didn't see a nitrite build up a few weeks prior to this spike when ammonia levels were lower. Or maybe something else went wrong. Anyway, I didn't like the product. I am trying another product.
