Used mSata and M.2 slots (separately - there is a switch to choose the form factor), each works well. When your drives are initialized, it shows up as an internal drive (assuming the hardware is meant to be internal) and speeds match those of the drive itself. When a new drive is used, it's easy to initialize, format, too install etc. We have one from a well known brand that costs three times as much and other than this being plastic there is no difference. The case is well ventilated, very easy to use and comes with lots of nuts and bolts (you must have known how I lose those tiny screws).
