The only reason I use this particular ring stand is because the inner diameter of the ring has enough room for the large Nitize magnet that I use attach it to a round plate and use it to attach to my windshield. The initial rotational frictional resistance of the ring and hinge is desirable, but it quickly breaks down and can no longer be used as a stand. Since this is the only ring I've found that I can attach a magnet to, I bought two of these in series and can just keep buying them and reinstalling the magnet (although I wish Nitis already had a Steele ring stand / base made). .
