But if you use a CNOC water bladder or a soft plastic soda bottle with regular dirty water threads, then you have a great gravity and compression system. Threads on both ends allow for easy backflushing without additional jets, and the outlet spout allows clean water to be directed through the drinking tube and into the hydration reservoir, effortlessly pulling the bottle out of a tight package. Simply remove the mouthpiece and insert a clean spout into the whistle. If you like, you can stick a piece of coffee filter on the dirty spout and secure it with a piece of twine or a loop of dental floss before screwing it onto the dirty water bottle to make something of a homemade pre-filter. I love these things for ultra light hiking.
