Won't go into the wood frame

My latest project is reupholstering 2 throne chairs with heavy upholstery fabric incl alligator-like leather. The original fabric on the chairs had nail head strips. I wanted something different for the reupholstery. I'm heartbroken that I can't use these tacks. When I tried nailing them into the frame with both a tack and regular hammer. These tacks/nails won't go into the wood. The shaft bends, and the tack become unusable. It looks like I have to pre-drill the holes 1st, which is too much trouble for me right now.

Pros

Easy to use - These decorative nails are easy to use and can be applied with minimal effort. Simply hammer them into whatever surface you want to add an extra decorative touch

Cons

May not be practical for those with limited mobility or dexterity
