After reading many reviews, I was concerned about buying this product. Without putting these people down, they just didn't know exactly what they didn't know. There are no instructions and I can understand that when I see all the combs sticking together it might seem that it shouldn't be. One reviewer claimed they were soldered together. They're definitely not soldered together, the reason they're glued is because they're all cut with scissors while they're in a bunch, and probably on purpose so the burrs don't move in all directions, they stay nice and neat when they stick together. They also have a plastic piece to hold the combs together when they start falling apart. They should definitely be glued together. Don't tear them up! It's very easy to use. Just shovel over the vent without much pressure and all the dirt is gone. Then go over it with a soft brush and you'll remove a little more. I then recommend using a foam cleaner and then rinsing with water. After this process it is like new.
