Review on Rothco Style Canvas Butt Olive by Isaac Valdivieso

Just what I needed for a day hike - completes my LBE ensemble

Received my bag today. so I haven't had a chance to use it yet. But it looks like it will hold a lot of things. Which brings me to the issue of sizes listed. The product description says "14.8 x 9.8 x 2.3 inches". But that's when the bag is empty and flat. The card that came with the bag says it measures 9" x 8.5" x 6". The bag I received is approximately 9" x 9.5" x 6" when full. In addition to the straps on the front that hold the lid in place. , there are two straps that attach at the back and pass under the bottom that enter buckles at the front bottom. They can be used as extra ground support when carrying a heavy load in your bag. Or they can be used to protect items like a rolled up poncho. (The front straps are long enough to attach the poncho to the front of the bag.) There are two loops on the back that allow you to attach the LBE suspenders directly to the bag for support while the ALICE Clips them to the pocket to attach the gun belt. There is also a fabric handle on top of the lid. Inside the bag is a fabric lining that covers the sides of the bag but not the bottom. The liner can be pulled up and pulled out. I'm not sure how to use it. Yes, the material is a little lighter than the old canvas I used years ago, but it should do for the hikes I do today. This will be a great addition to my LBE ensemble. With this I should be able to carry everything I need for a long day hike of several hours.

Pros
  • Brilliantly made
Cons
  • Expensive insurance
