Really good value for money

I have been working as a radio amateur for 7 years and during this time I have made many baluns for different antenna types. I bought this kit to see how it would fit with buying all the parts individually. I will say if you just want to make a balun this is a good kit at a decent price. If you're planning on making several or three then it's probably best to buy the parts yourself. Since most parts are delivered in multiple copies. As for the hardware in this set, all the major parts are stainless steel, the threads on the SO239 are very nice and smooth, the toroid (don't know what the mix is) worked fine, I can do the 30ft wire pretty much agree well on most bands. So overall not bad for the price. It's a bit of a hassle to screw the nuts onto the bolts for the underside of the so239 connection to the box, but it works. If you haven't already wrapped the toroid, I don't recommend using 1:9 because the toroid is smaller. and the box is space constrained and moreover drilled more for a 1:1 type dipole. I did not use the magnet wire that came with the kit. While this will work fine I prefer using a colored solid conductor, it helps me with the end connections. Also, pro tip, see pics, use heat shrink tubing to keep the wires together and flat so they don't cross when you wrap them. The photos in the listing show that the heat shrink tubing over the wires doesn't do this, it would be a nightmare to wrap the wires and keep them from crossing. No instructions are included as it's fine if you know how to wrap the balun, not great if you've never done it before. See my photos for a diagram of how to make 1:9 un un balun. There are also many YouTube videos on this topic. The box is weatherproof, don't forget to put in the gasket - that's the white foam thread that comes with the box. However, I wouldn't use this for a permanent installation unless I sealed the seams of the hardware with silicone. However, for field use and temporary purposes, this works as is. So for the price I'd say it's not bad, the hardware is decent, the S0239 is great, the toroid seems like an acceptable mix and the pre-drilled box does a lot of the work for it. I am happy with the purchase and if I were to build another one I would buy it again.
