Obviously something is wrong with the plastic used. ****** Original Review: These spring clips are great for energy efficient drying of clothes on stainless steel shelves, indoors and out. Contrary to some other reviewers I can say that my case came with the clear case pictured in July 2013. Strangely, the container is so small that once removed, the clips don't all fit back into the container. A disadvantage of the product is the extremely brittle plastic used. At the same time, they have extremely strong feathers. This is a bad combination as you can easily destroy the clamps by quickly spreading and releasing. My other similarly shaped spring clips are made of more durable plastic and don't have this problem. I see that they break easily when exposed to harsh industrial environments or low temperatures.
