Strange smell

The color suits them well and they look like they will hold up well. Will be big for my 1 year old but I expected it. The rope is long enough that we could use them for several years. What I didn't expect was that they would smell like a musty, smoky basement. This was the first thing I noticed right after unpacking. They are definitely washed before going to my child and for that reason I only gave 2 stars.
