This case works very well with the Microsoft keyboard. The case appears to be somewhere between plastic and silicone around the edges. The stand/back cover is hard. I have small hands and my grip is a bit different due to the injury. This case is a good option for me because it didn't add too much weight or thickness. The only part I don't like is the pen holder because of its position, although I can't suggest a better place. I haven't tried using a pen with it, so I can't speak to the effectiveness of holding the pen. I find that the case makes it easier to access the stand as the tab on the stand is big enough to grab but doesn't protrude beyond the case.
