A little science, lots of fun

I bought this with my 3 year old to use and she loves it. Very easy to assemble and every time it fired it was a delight. Includes bottle, bottle screw, fins, 2 bike pump adapters, hose and bottle cap. After a quick setup and some water, we were able to get started. You just pour some water into the bottle, cap the end and then pump the bike pump around 3-5 times. We used a pump that you can put both feet on while pumping. It takes 30-40psi to run depending on how much water you put in. Once you get the right pressure, it will ignite and use the water as the power. As it says on the box, it flies to an altitude of about 30 meters (90+ feet). The instructions also include a few paragraphs explaining the science behind the kit (action versus reaction). I found it pretty neat. It never hurts to learn something while having fun. We had tarmac and concrete nearby so the bottle and fins scratched when we landed on one of them. Other than that, I think you can enjoy a single bottle for many hours without wearing out. We'll probably test a few different bottles to see if there's a big difference on launch or flight. I also think the bottle needs some tape at the top to prevent the fins from hitting the bottom first. I was worried it would use a lot of water and the fun wouldn't last long. However, we filled the jug up to a gallon, and it lasted for about a dozen starts or more. Overall I highly recommend this product. Yes, you can probably do it yourself, but for a ready-made kit, it's worth the cost. The set is intended for ages 8+, but children under this age will definitely enjoy it as long as they are properly supervised. Unfortunately my 3 year old was only able to pump a couple of times before the pressure got too high, but I don't see a problem with this in older children.
