Bought this because I have a black staircase that for some reason never had a light installed in the ceiling and is therefore very, very dark. Especially very late at night we sometimes have to use our cell phone flashlights to walk up and down safely. Instead of hiring an electrician or contractor to install the lights, I went with this simple solution. I hung it myself. I took the little ladder we have in the closet, climbed it up and screwed it to the ceiling. Installation took 4 to 6 minutes. Need batteries easy to put in. This works very well. The motion detector recognizes that you are leaving from about the second or third level. It's bright enough to light your way slightly, but not bright enough to blind you.
