I bought this grinder and at first thought it was defective or poorly constructed as the knob at the top is quite loose and won't hold the adjustment. . I tried putting tape on it but it didn't work. I finally researched this and realized I was using the grinder incorrectly. Once you have set your desired setting, you need to grind by rotating the lower wooden part of the grinder while holding the dial with your hand on the top of the grinder. If you grind by turning the top of the burr while holding the bottom of the burr steady, the setting will be lost quickly. This is an important detail of this mill and I don't think it has been explained anywhere. That little mess aside, this coffee grinder is great! Note, however, that this olive wood is not sealed, so if you leave the grinder in the water (e.g. on the countertop next to the sink) it will absorb water and possibly discolour or crack.
