2U Rack Hinge - NO Tools Required

** Looks like reviews have been pooled for the entire family. This overview is for a 2U rack hinge panel. It's not a tool-less installation, although the product name would suggest it. "Toolless" refers to some of the other members of the product family. One star deducted for inaccuracy. Otherwise it would have been a 5 star product. **Item arrived quickly and in good condition. Looks solid, well painted. Possible design issues: As shown in the product photos, the mounting holes are round. My rack is commercially available, so the rails should be in the default position. However, latching/unlatching the panel required some effort as it was designed for a slightly (1/32 inch?) wider space. The drill quickly expanded the mounting holes into adjustable ovals like most other rackmount gear, but filing down the burrs ruined the paint a bit. The panels will now snap in and out easily. What does it take to make these holes oval/adjustable from the factory? Application Note: The mounting holes are also in the middle of each U instead of the top and bottom. Keep this in mind if you're hoping to use the panels as doors to keep commonly needed items close at hand such as microphones, manuals and so on. but out of sight: they won't work with a standard shelf without some panel or shelf modifications, namely mounting holes and a latch slot. when there is an overlap between the shelf and the panel. The solution was to place the panels over an unheated object like a drawer and use it as a shelf. (See overview images.) Featuring custom adjustable mounting holes and a non-shelf base behind, these door panels are a great tool for closing gaps at the front of a rack.
