Total: 73% (3.63/5) Don't compare this to an L lens because it isn't. But its value for money is great, and if you don't mind a few small, easy-to-fix design issues, this lens will quickly become your favorite and never leave your camera mount. Image quality: 4/5. fantastic. And that's all that really matters. IS is awesome and gives you multiple stops. 3.5 is good for indoor shots (especially with IS), use flash when shooting indoors. Ease of use: 3.5/5. People who hold a camera and primarily use autofocus will find that the variable aperture gives them more work. This lens also has a macro focusing section! However, how difficult is it to compensate for variable aperture? Not really, especially considering the price of this lens. Those who prefer manual focus will love the permanent manual ring with auto focus switching. A nice feature (especially if your camera has a live view mode): the autofocus is very fast with the USM motor. The focal range is very convenient and easy to use. Even with a crop sensor (like the Rebel series), the 44.8mm to 216mm focal length range remains useful. Build Quality: 3/5. The main body is solid. The switches make a solid impression. 2 main attractions lower the score. Creep and movement of the lens when the tube is extended. It feels worse than it actually is, and if you don't keep dropping it, it will last you for years. Fight against lens creep. Expand the barrel before you start walking (you still have to zoom in to frame the next picture, so it really doesn't matter). I really doubt the canon technique in this case. Rather than combat lens creep by eliminating it, they appear to have engineered the lens to hold when fully extended. (does not crawl when zoomed to 135). The result is a lens that, at first glance, looks like it wants to shoot at either a 28 or 135. If you buy this lens you will feel that it should skip 50mm to 125mm. . In practice, however, this has never been a problem as you still keep your hand on the lens barrel when taking pictures. For my taste, the barrel seemed slack at first, but in practice it felt great in my hands. Value for money: 4 / 5 This lens produces fantastic images. In its price range, this is undoubtedly one of the best lenses on the market. I was disappointed that Canon don't offer lens hoods without the L designation. Compared to competing Canons (Tamron/Sigma) they don't offer warranties but resale value is good! I took my refurbished one for 299.99 (new is 375.00 at the time of this review) for 3 reasons.1. costs2. It has been tested before I receive it so I know it works.3. I get the best guarantee on the refurbished product!
