This is a fantastic lens and a great upgrade to the "standard" 18-55mm kit lens. The IS is better and not only is the lens sharper, but the color reproduction is MUCH better. I don't know how to explain it. I shoot a lot with vintage lenses and the only other ones I've found that have the nice rich and warm tones this lens delivers are the old Olympus 50mm f/1.8 and the Olympus 28mm f/3.5 (both you can buy cheaper). and they are AMAZING lenses). I've shot with everything from vintage glass toโ€ฆ

White Box Lens Beware

I purchased this lens from Digital Pavilion Electronics (from Revain.com) and the unit I received was in a white box, not retail packaging. The box had a sticker that said *New* and the lens looked fine, but the white boxed versions are usually sold for 10-20% off that price and the description doesn't mention I got the white box bought. Good. , I know who cares about the box, it's just tossed in the cupboard or thrown away, but the retail box is well made from protective packaging foam. Theโ€ฆ

EF 28-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS USM

This lens is showing its age. I'm not sure why Canon still ships it with the latest APS-C bodies. This lens has been replaced by the new EFS 18-135mm and EFS 15-85mm lenses with UD glass element. Get these instead. However, the EF 28-135mm can be used for full-frame cameras. So it has its own benefit depending on what you do in the future. I bought this lens before EFS interchangeable lenses were introduced. The IS and the zoom range were the features that intrigued me when I bought it. Thisโ€ฆ

Very solid purchase

Firstly I'm definitely not a professional photographer and can't justify buying L glass, but I shoot with a Canon 60D and the other lens I have is an EF 50mm f/1.4 USM, so I got used to fast focusing and a huge aperture. While fifty bucks is awesome for a lot of things, given the 60D crop factor, it's a bit limiting. I needed a good zoom lens for portraits and indoors, so I started looking at the 28-135. After weighing a few reviews, I bought it from Revain for $200. (You can find it cheaperโ€ฆ

Good lens, disappointing packaging

I am not a professional or experienced photographer. So consider these comments. I have two Canon cameras, 40D and 60D. I have two other Canon IS USM lenses: 17-55 f2.8 and 70-300 f4-f5.6. I bought this lens to bridge the gap between them. I haven't had this new lens for a very long time, but here are my first impressions. First, it's shorter (when zoomed out), lighter, and smaller in diameter than the 17-55 f2.8 lens that used to be our typical carry-on lens. Obviously it doesn't perform asโ€ฆ

Great pictures, great value.

Total: 73% (3.63/5) Don't compare this to an L lens because it isn't. But its value for money is great, and if you don't mind a few small, easy-to-fix design issues, this lens will quickly become your favorite and never leave your camera mount. Image quality: 4/5. fantastic. And that's all that really matters. IS is awesome and gives you multiple stops. 3.5 is good for indoor shots (especially with IS), use flash when shooting indoors. Ease of use: 3.5/5. People who hold a camera and primarilyโ€ฆ

Weak, poorly made

The first thing that struck me when I received this lens was the poor build quality. When spending a few hundred dollars on a lens, I expect the mechanical parts to behave as if they were built to tight tolerances. If a lens clearly does not meet these high standards, I return it. I returned two copies of this lens. I've given up for now and have come to the conclusion that Canon's quality control, at least for this particular lens, has gone completely haywire. The main build quality issue isโ€ฆ
