This lens is showing its age. I'm not sure why Canon still ships it with the latest APS-C bodies. This lens has been replaced by the new EFS 18-135mm and EFS 15-85mm lenses with UD glass element. Get these instead. However, the EF 28-135mm can be used for full-frame cameras. So it has its own benefit depending on what you do in the future. I bought this lens before EFS interchangeable lenses were introduced. The IS and the zoom range were the features that intrigued me when I bought it. This was my lens of choice at the time because the EFS 18-55mm mk2 kit lens was too crappy (the new one with IS is much better). The EF 28-135mm lens has accompanied me on many vacation trips and left many good memories. Once I even accidentally dropped it on the floor with the camera body. You survived. The image quality is quite good, but not outstanding. You can't compare that to Prime. When I mount this lens on an APS-C camera body, I can hardly tell the difference in image quality with my EF 24-70mm F2.8L unless I zoom in to see the pixels. People are complaining about the zoom creep. So what? My lens has been badly beaten up and still works like new. For the price, the build quality is quite acceptable. The EF 28-135mm lens was a good deal for the average consumer a few years ago. Today you have more options. I'm sure you'll ditch this lens and get the latest EFS equivalent. They are better built with better glass and IS.
