White Box Lens Beware

I purchased this lens from Digital Pavilion Electronics (from Revain.com) and the unit I received was in a white box, not retail packaging. The box had a sticker that said *New* and the lens looked fine, but the white boxed versions are usually sold for 10-20% off that price and the description doesn't mention I got the white box bought. Good. , I know who cares about the box, it's just tossed in the cupboard or thrown away, but the retail box is well made from protective packaging foam. The white box is flimsy and the lens was only protected by a thin piece of bubble wrap. There was also incorrect packaging in the shipping box as the lens was rolling around in the shipping box. I was a bit worried about the lens (they are fragile and precise devices after all), but close inspection and testing revealed no visible damage. However, this is very unacceptable. The white box and packaging didn't affect my 4 star rating as I don't think it's fair to call products for seller related issues. This is a very good lens, almost as good as the 24-105 f/4 L in performance (please don't scold me - google "ken rockwell 28-135 IS" for a qualified opinion). This lens has some nice high-end features like an ultrasonic focus motor, image stabilization, manual focus override, and a non-rotating front glass. It loses a star as Canon has made no effort to address the lens shift issue, which is the main complaint about this otherwise excellent lens.
