I was not sure if my son was too old for them, since he just turned 7, but he loves them. I also bought the rug, because it creates a special place for all of the cars. (It's a little city.) He enjoys them after bath time, or when I need quiet time for a while. I totally missed the description where it mentions that if you pull the cars/tires backwards, that the car is self-propelled for a foot to a foot and a half. My son also likes the cars because some are rescue vehicles.
