I bought this scanner to scan some of the thousands of slides I have accumulated over the past 50+ years. This was a project I've always wanted to do (I've previously bought 2 other film scanners but both required a connection to a computer and neither worked outside of Windows XP). This one was detached and I had surgery planned and was using my recovery time to get the job done. My goal was not to scan large prints or enlargements professionally, but to be able to view my slides on a TV or computer screen. So far it's done a great job. On the plus side, it's relatively fast, taking about a second or two to save an image. It is USB powered, I use a small battery to charge phones - after 3 hours of use the battery still shows a full charge. I don't have to sit at a computer desk with limited space, I can work almost anywhere. Images can be quickly flipped both horizontally and vertically. Picture adjustments are relatively easy to make and remain the same until you turn the device off and on again. I only adjusted the brightness because I thought other adjustments were better left to a computer imaging program. The image quality is very good to excellent for my purposes. Yes I can say these are scans and not digital originals but if the original image has too much dynamic range then I'm very happy with it. It's really good for bulk scanning, stack all the slides on the right side, put them in one at a time and stack them as they come out. You use the next and previous slides to precisely position the current slide. The image on the screen is bright and clear, but this is a small screen. You don't want to use it to decide which slides to scan - it's easier to scan them all than delete them. Transferring pictures by moving the SD card to a computer is quick and easy. Negatives can be scanned just as easily as slides, but negatives with "development strips” attached must be removed to fit the media. Slide and negative carrier are well made, the 110 negative carrier is thin, I didn't use Super8 media. Cons: The image on the screen is too small to really tell the story of the slide. Slides do not "jump" out of the block, but are pushed out by the next slide. To remove the last slide, you must remove the holder. There was no brush to clean the unit as instructed in the instructions, but the unit has spring-loaded doors that close the opening to the exposure chamber when the film holders are removed. If the SD card is reformatted to hold more images, all slide numbers will reset and start again at PICT0001. This causes problems when uploading to the computer's directory and overwrites previous scans. In summary, a great scanner for my needs, digitizes old film images quickly and with good image quality for viewing on a computer or TV screen. I would buy this again.
