I don't know what happened to the pads that got bad reviews, mine are just fantastic. I polished the bathroom floor to get it dirty and they weren't even half worn. A few tips: - Do not use dry! The sprayer with water to spray the surface keeps them going, it's easier on hands and less dust. I have a cheap random orbit sander that I don't regret. Of course, do not spray the grinder and do not form puddles. Most power tools still don't like water. Set the grinder to the lowest speed. This is still sufficient for most instruments, but it avoids deposits that attack the surface and damage the pad. Hope this helps with the decision.
