Background: I ran in the basement for about 4 years, it was necessary to clean the pan very regularly (at least 1 time per hour even in dry summer conditions) . The Zoeller switch began to fail, a common problem reported in Zeoller reviews. I would often have water alarms and would run down to the basement to find a working backup sump pump because the Zoeller was completely submerged but not pumping. For several weeks I lowered and raised the float on the Zoller to make it work. After a while I got fed up and decided that with the arrival of the spring rains it wasn't time to risk the basement any further. Flood. I read that this Liberty pump has a different type of switch and decided to give it a try. Differences: * The Liberty Pump's switch point is slightly higher than the Zoeller's, so my sump fills with more water before the pump kicks in. No problem, but the location of the single PVC pipe feeding my sump is slightly below that set point, giving me a significantly higher volume of water for the Liberty pump to handle when it's turned on. I think that's actually a positive because the pump can run longer and pump more water before shutting off and less frequently. Due to the height of the switching point, I could not place the pump on bricks or a platform. Instead, I vacuumed my sump pump completely free of rocks, dirt, and water to create a very clean surface for the pump to sit on. I'll probably have to do this 1-2 times a year.* The Liberty pump is quieter. Hooked up to the same PVC piping, backflow preventer and Stern water hammer prevention, the Liberty pump is barely audible on my 1st floor where I previously heard the Zoeller. I was concerned for a while that the Liberty wasn't working, so I would test it from time to time by watching the sump slowly fill to make sure the Liberty pump was working. * The Liberty pump does not require as much space for the switch. Since the float slides up and down the pump body (by pressing the magnet in the control box you see on top of the pump) there isn't much room for the moving part. This helped in my swamp needing to hold one as well. This made retrofitting the rig much easier than trying to refit a replacement Zöller with its swingarm. You are probably comparing the Zoeller to this pump and a full sump pump or a pump with very frequent operation that cannot tolerate switch failure I would recommend Liberty.
