Reliable protection, discreet style. it's almost perfect.

So I just bought an iPad mini Retina and was looking for a good case from Revain. I'm a big believer in protecting my devices from falls because a) I have two kids and b) I think it's worth protecting your investment just in case. In the case of my iPhone, a drop-resistant case has saved me countless times. I originally used a ballistic case for my iPad, similar to the one I have on my iPhone, but it turned out that there were a few issues. with the iPad mini implementation, so I had to return it. I never thought of a flip case because most leave the device too open. But it seemed to meet all my requirements. And I'm not a big fan of cases with built-in screen protectors (like the Otterbox and Lifeproof cases). I researched this online and it was generally well received. I've seen several reviews mentioning mismatched case materials around the volume control, as well as issues with sliding the lid and activating the magnetic auto on/off feature. I was very pleased to receive the product without the above issues. The area around the volume rocker was perfectly straight, so perhaps the manufacturer solved the design/manufacturing issue. And as for the latter, I think it might be more of an issue with iPad Air cases. But the degree of movement on the lid of this case just isn't enough to activate the magnets on the iPad mini. I definitely feel my iPad is well protected by this case. Haven't dropped it yet so can't confirm drop protection, but it's definitely better than most folio cases. The upper is very durable here. He feels safe in my arms. However, there is a problem in my particular usage. And when you open the tome like you're reading a book, hold on to the inside cover. And it's lined with a very soft felt material that's not grippy at all. In the folded video mode, the body stands straight and solid with a good range of viewing angles. However, if the case is folded in writing mode, it will move a bit and be less secure. It's a shame, because that's where you actually move the most. Overall I like this case. I looked at other options including one from STM (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HS05FGY/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3FMULDSIWJ71Y&coliid=I2DLO6B2TKWW3G&psc=1). The STM case is just too hard to find or too expensive if you can find one. I also looked at the case from Logitech (http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Protective-Display-Graphite-939-001031/dp/B00JZM7T1C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1407453836&sr=8-1&keywords= logitech+ipad+mini+folio+drop). I actually saw the Logitech case at my local Staples store and while I liked how the case fitted the iPad, I didn't like the material of the lid or how the lid was attached to the back of the case. It seemed very bulky. Although there are several color versions of this case, none of them are particularly loud. I find that the black and gray casing doesn't really set my device apart from all the other iPad minis floating around. I like it. You can not. So is that the ideal case? no But that's the closest I could find. I would recommend this case without hesitation. Just understand the few limitations.

Pros
  • Multiple viewing angles and built-in typing
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
