I ordered these tights for kayaking. Double dose of sun for you. I'm between small and medium and this is the right size. The little ones fit well, but according to my wife, they seem too tight in the pelvic area. The medium size is more comfortable in the hips and seat BUT the ankles are a little loose so I like the small better - the ankles are snug like the rest of the tight ones so I'm between sizes... More confusing I'm even more an avid mountain biker who races so my legs probably have more muscle than most people who don't train hard. A medium size would be perfect if the ankles were tight like all other tights. All in all a little too tight, not too tight, just a little. To help, my build is 5 feet 8 inches, 163 pounds. – Lean body/muscles. The overall quality of the tights is really good (material and cut). However, I gave it four stars because the ankles are a bit loose and not tight like my other cycling shorts. My recommendation is if you use Prime for shipping, buy your size according to the chart, but also try a smaller size and see what fits you best.
