I use this cable to connect my laptop to my desktop computer and it works fine. It offers true USB3.0 speeds as I can tell from the HDD read and write speeds. The length doesn't bother me, but if a 6 inch cable isn't enough for you, you can also buy a USB3 extender or just get a product with a longer cable. The cable itself looks like heat shrink cable wrap because it's thin and you can see the bulges and outlines of the cables it's holding in the wire. Also, if it's bent too much, it creates an awkward crease in the cable, and I wouldn't want to use this in a highly mobile app if that's an issue. My hard drive doesn't move across my desk at all, so that's fine with me, but if you're using something you're going to move around a lot, it won't last long for you.
