It does add a little weight, but the priority is protection. I had an issue with another case which had a side opening for charging the Apple Pencil. Somehow I managed to crack the screen even though there was no dent on the side where the spider web cracks emanated. GRRR! $600 to replace my iPad Pro! OUCH. Hence a requirement for a 4-sided enclosed case. Didn't really want a trifold cover, but it's mainly to keep the screen clean of dust and fingerprints anyway. For the price, it's fine. Also, it's a nice cool metallic blue. Tricky to get on - start from the top, slide in top corners in one motion, press down one bottom corner, then the other. Nice tight fit.
