Review on πŸ–¨οΈ LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer - HP by Bilal Cartwright

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Above average printer with easy setup to use with USB cable

The only reason I bought this printer was because my old HP 1012 LaserJet didn't work on my new Windows 7 PC I've been to for over I've been an HP customer for 10 years and have decided to buy another LaserJet despite some negative reviews on this site. I figured if the overall rating was 4 stars I would go ahead and give it a whirlwind. When it arrived the other day and I compared it to the old 1012 printer, it was obvious that HP had taken some of the cost from the old one, which is fine as long as the printer works properly. Setup was very easy as I use the printer as a wired (i.e. USB based) device and not a wireless device. The driver software loaded quickly and the device was ready to print in just a few minutes. The print quality is very good and the speed is definitely faster than my Dinosaur 1012. There are two things I dislike about this printer, but not enough to give it a less than excellent rating. First off, come on HP, what is the "starter" cartridge that only runs about 700 pages? Just add a standard cartridge and increase the price by a reasonable amount to cover the cost. Secondly, when configuring the "Printing Preferences" under the "EconoMode" selection there is the text "(You can save the cartridge for printing)". Really hp? With the old 1012, it was obvious that EconoMode saves toner, so the qualifier wasn't included in the software. So I'm wondering if ticking that box actually saves toner, and if not, what's the point of even talking about it? Despite these shortcomings, I'm still inclined to give this pup four stars, but I'll definitely update this review if I find any issues with this product in the future. UPDATE - 4-12-14: This printer is doing a good job. full pages, but printing envelope #10 is really lousy. Addresses are almost invisible. Well done HP engineers! My old HP 1012 printed envelopes just fine. For this reason I have changed my rating to 3 stars.
