USB + Panda WiFi conflict: NUC7 Ubuntu 18LTS UPDATED 3 times and done

Update #3 - still deleting my WiFi adapter. on the internet, they made a year-long decision to blacklist, among other things, this device; Looking at the syslog, I verified that the blacklist is working, but the problem persists in the 5.0 low-latency kernel. DNS not working when surfing the web with HDD Enclosure enabled; The page loads when I turn it off with the button. It is finished. I'll be less obsessed with max disk speed and find one with a chipset that runs Linux. When I hear reports of "bad cables" the conspirator in me wonders if the USB cable has pirated or stupid firmware overloading the USB bus. My nuc worked with built-in WiFi but not with my WiFi dongle with the Inatek case attached. Update number 2. The problem with Wi-Fi remained. Disconnect the USB cable from the case to the Nuc and it reverts to the 20-25Mbps I get regularly using Google's standard internet speed test. Is there wifi in this b/g/n nonsense? Not very happy with the fast blinking LED on the power button when this happens. not sure what that means. Maybe it's a feature of the Linux driver. I've been monitoring the disk temp and it's not *it*. First review: I want to like this little box, but I've spent more time than it's worth looking for significant Wi-Fi degradation when connected to my Intel NUC7PJYH - and that's after working hard to find a case equipped with ASM1153. I don't know if it's an issue with Panda, USB3 or ASM1153 or some other driver, but my Wi-Fi download speed has dropped to 10-30% of normal speed when the case is on. I've tried different USB 2 and 3 ports on the NUC and running neither/neither/both devices through a USB3 hub without resolving the issue. Eventually I stopped using the Panda 300N USB adapter and turned on the NUC's internal Wi-Fi and that seemed to restore my Wi-Fi. Speed - I don't automatically blame the Panda as the WiFi was very fast and stable until I added an Inateck case to the mix.

Pros

Cons
  • Socket required
