Review on πŸ”’ Dynomax 33272: Premium Stainless Steel Hardware Clamp Band for Secure and Reliable Fastening by Robert Espinoza

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very nice clips on clips

I like these clips. I've been using stainless steel band clamps on my exhaust since I found out about them about 10 years ago and have been very happy with all of them. The set I put on first still shines and looks new (after wiping the dirt off) even though I drive daily when I see snow and salt every year. Style joint, obviously. I like that you don't have to stretch the yoke like you did with the old flat yokes. Dynomax clamps come with a bead of sealant at the joint which improves the seal compared to a plain clamp. They also have a shank on one side with threaded holes designed essentially for flare nuts. This makes installation easier, but if you remove one you'll need to find a nut and washer. They can definitely be removed, so I gave the clip 4 stars. If you overtighten (I usually use an impact wrench and sometimes forget to turn the torque down) the threads will snap. However, if you read the instructions and only tighten to 60 foot-lbs, you should be fine. I would have preferred a stronger "real" nut as car enthusiasts like myself tend to see a relatively large bolt and just tighten it up and we don't read instructions. :) Anyhow, I have several of these precise clips that I am using on four cars at the moment and none of them have failed over a number of years (except the one I removed which now works fine with the nut installed). Will definitely buy more next time I make an exhaust. I particularly like using them on the inlet and outlet side of the muffler as they don't dent the pipe and allow me to swap out the muffler/disassemble the exhaust pipe for removal as needed. Welds or cheap U-clamps won't let me do that. My other helpful tip is to anti-seize the bolts before installing them. The thread insert does not look like steel and the anti-seize coating makes later disassembly much more comfortable. You will not regret it.

Pros
  • Excellent tightness
Cons
  • Unfashionable
