Finally a decent Thunderbolt Dock

TL;DR This docking station is perfect for me! Identical video outputs with good I/0. Transit power 85W for MacBook Pro. And a neat power button! This is my first product review. Bought it for my own Dinero. 3 reasons why this dock is perfect for me 1) Identical video output ports One of my biggest problems with ThunderBolt 3 docks is finding one that has the same 2 display ports. Sometimes they do 1 Type-C and 1 Displayport, sometimes it's 1 Displayport and 1 HDMI. It's annoying because I only want 2 of the same. And even if they are on the same port, they don't always support 4K 60Hz. This matters to me as I have a 1440p/144Hz and 1080/144Hz monitor. Luckily this dock supports 2 HDMI 2.0 ports which provide the highest refresh rate for both of my monitors! 2) 85W Power Through I have a 15 inch Macbook Pro that needs a lot of power. Because this dock supports 85W bandwidth, it became a one-cable solution for my 15-inch MacBook. I currently have 2 monitors connected, a USB webcam, a gigabit ethernet cable and a USB Type-C dongle. Everything works, even the headphone jack for audio output and input. Many docking stations only work up to 65 watts. 3) Power button! That's definitely the icing on the cake. I leave my MacBook on continuously when connected to 2 monitors because I keep the laptop closed and don't have to turn it on and off. When I turn off the computer, I have to open the laptop to press the power button. This docking station allows me to disable the docking station and stop powering the laptop. This allows the laptop to sleep! Now it doesn't stay warm all night and I can save on my electricity bill! The only thing I don't like about the power button is that there is an LED light on the power button itself. Therefore, you need to press and hold the power button for 3 seconds until the LED turns off. But since your finger blocks the light, it's hard to see. Not a big deal, but something that could be improved in version 2.4) Bugs/quirks See point 3 regarding the power button. What I didn't expect was a thick power supply. The docking station uses a barrel-shaped connector that plugs into a fairly large power adapter. The power adapter isn't at the end of the connector, it's in the middle of the cable (and splits into 2 halves). I won't rate it because a) it does the job and b) the stock power supply is clunky too. Unless they add a GaN power supply I won't see this change. The power supply measures approximately 6 x 2 inches. Maybe he can just use the Type-C connector for power next time? This way I can use my own cables as GaN is getting smaller and smaller. For the next dock. I'd like the same dock but with a smaller power adapter or no power adapter and a smaller dock itself. This can be achieved by removing the microSD card reader and a few other ports. For me the ideal ports would be 2 video outs, 1 Type C, 1 USB A, ethernet, headphone jack and ethernet with power button! And maybe at a lower price ;) $260 is a lot for this dock, but if you have the money don't hesitate.

Pros
  • Absolutely Amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
