Review on Lenovo ThinkCentre Desktop I5 6500T Windows by Robert Tirona

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good deal, with limitations (especially audio)

I bought this specifically to migrate to Ubuntu Linux, so I don't have any Windows 10 comments on board. The processor, i5-6500T, has a reference speed of 4943 - great for general use. In contrast, the Celeron and Core 2 Duos show around 890. Use cpubenchmark.net to check before you buy. 8 GB of RAM is sufficient for Linux, but is sometimes a bit small for Windows 10 (approx. 45 euros), so that an upgrade is possible. The included wired USB mouse and keyboard are simple and functional. However, these devices do not have built-in WiFi, so a USB WiFi dongle is included. It's the untitled part that caused me to have trouble losing connection. Disconnecting and reconnecting fixed the problem, but I always wanted to use a cable so it wouldn't bother me. If Wi-Fi is your goal, you can test it thoroughly. The device has a 9 pin serial port (very odd these days) and only DVI connections - no HDMI. If you want to connect it to your TV, you'll definitely need a DVI-HDMI cable (avoid adapters). * A serious problem is that unlike HDMI, DVI _does not_ carry sound. Your TV must have "input bonding" if you want sound, otherwise you will need to find an audio cable and connect it to your speaker/amplifier setup. cigarette smoke. The 409 Quick Clear Formula puts an end to that. Overall I'd be a lot happier if the box had an HDMI output, but I was able to work around the audio issues. Pros: Fast processor speed, good graphics performance (not enough gaming), great value for money, 100% Linux compatible. Cons: DVI over HDMI causes issues, borderline RAM size, crappy USB Wi-Fi adapter.
