DO NOT use RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES (1.3V) instead of alkaline batteries (1.5V). The screen works with alkaline batteries!
**UPDATE** It seems all my rechargeable AAA batteries are 1.3 volts and alkaline are 1.57 volts. When I switched the batteries to alkaline, the display works fine. When the batteries die/the voltage drops, the screen only works if you press it and turn the remote a little to see what text is behind it.
