Essential Eclipse Gear

This is essential equipment for an eclipse. It's worth it. It fits perfectly on my Celestron 8" SCT, with three felt pads included. I haven't had the opportunity to use it in exceptional conditions or with a lot of sunspots, but in the conditions in which I've used it, it's perfect. It is my eighth sun filter (one of which was a 10" lens number) and it's about as good as any of them. By the way, when attaching the felt pad (sticky on one side, felt on the other) I have parts that are 120 degrees apart. If you need more, put more pieces on top of the first three. More pieces around the perimeter won't help.

Pros
  • SolarLite filters have the optical quality of glass with the benefits of an impregnated polymer (Thousand Oaks Optical Black Polymer). The Sun is a natural yellow-orange color when viewed through a telescope with this filter.
Cons
  • Expensive
