Lots of compromises

So a tripod really has "one job” – to hold the camera steady so you can take nice, clear shots. Unfortunately, this tripod is not very rigid and the main stand design has more disadvantages. The pivoting and articulating center column is a great feature when done well, but unfortunately it only contributes to less stability. But yeah, it's not very light (compared to a travel tripod) and not very stiff for this price range. . I was surprised/shocked at how easy it was to get the legs to lean by pressing on them. Not sure if it's just bad carbon fiber or bad locks, but they aren't rigid. I did a stability test between this tripod, a Feisol CT-3441S and an old Gitzo 1127mk2 and it took 3 seconds for the Gitzo to stop vibrating, the Feisol 5 seconds and the Benro 7-8 seconds. This is clearly not a tripod you want to use for long exposures. Also, as expected, this Chinese-made tripod cannot compete with the Italian Gitzo tripod. But I was a bit surprised at how poor it compares to Taiwanese feisol. The Benro footpeg feels stoned compared to the Gitzo/Feisol and overall quality just hasn't skimped. Don't get me wrong, this is not a POS stand. But for the price it could certainly be better. If you _really_really_ don't need that center column that can move at all those angles, you're much better off choosing a different tripod - even a different Benro.
