I've wanted/needed a plasma torch for a long time. But I've always been content with a saw, a cut-off wheel, a band saw, etc. A few years ago brand name routers were about $800 for a 50-amp, but now they're $1,800. I got curious when I saw this car and the other good reviews made me even more curious. Until I clicked buy. I've had it for 3 weeks, for the money it's just great. I cut 18ga, 1/4β, 1/2β and even 3/4β with it. There is no cutting chart included, but once you get used to it you can determine the power and air pressure. With a guide, you can use it to cut multiple straight lines. I use it at 240 volts in the same outlet for my welder and can't find anything that won't turn it off. I made a 3/4 inch piece and he did it in two passes. The included dryer and regulator is fine, but you can upgrade it cheaply. Consumables are also easy to get from Revain. My only concern is the coating on the hose. My esab tig welding hose is bulletproof. The hose cover of the wall mounted plasma cutter is thin rubber so sparks and slag will have already punctured it or two. My advice is to either drape the hose over your shoulder or get a leather hose cover. Also leave on for 10-15 minutes to cool after cutting. My welders only boil when it's hot/working and then shut off after 10+ minutes when it's cool again. The fan of this machine is on all the time. If you turn it off while it is hot, it can overheat the inverter and covers, which can shorten its lifespan. Otherwise, this is my new favorite instrument.
