Having to replace my trusty old Hamilton Beach toaster due to a broken spring, I decided to take a chance and buy a toaster with a more innovative design. I was partially ready for something that looked brilliant but didn't get any better (and I had never heard of this brand before). Fortunately, my expectations were exceeded. You wouldn't believe there's much room for improvement in something as simple as a toaster, but Merece gets it right. A few pluses: all stainless steel (nice looks), slightly less countertop space than other toasters (I can tell by the slot we always kept our toasters in). The most important thing for me: The toaster holder (whatever it's called) has more travel, so it protrudes well over the surface of the toaster when the toast pops out; No more burned fingers trying to pull out the toast. The sides stay cool while toasting. And of course the digital countdown timer looks cool and practical, although the display is a bit hard to see from different angles. Only real negative: the crumb tray is small in size, I'm not sure how effective it will be. In operation, this toaster has proven to be normal. Tans evenly on both sides, rises gently, jog dial timing seems accurate. One of my favorite breads was good dough - really dense German rye that takes a long time to toast fully which my previous toaster never handled and it always curled up a lot in the toaster. Merece earned my respect for doing a good job of roasting evenly from top to bottom without frizzing. I can't say anything about durability as I've only had it for about 2 weeks, but I hope it lasts a long time. Finally, even my wife, who is mostly against gadgets, loves it and is glad we got it.
