See Flagstone78's review where he posted the code for the device. Using a combination of this and a few other things I found online, I was able to get it to work the way I needed it. The readings are a bit finicky and need to be paired with a distance sensor to get accurate readings as a slight distance of the device from the object being measured results in a wide range of temperatures. Also, without testing, it's impossible to know what distance to measure from to get the object's correct temperature. Finding this out requires some testing and experimentation with objects of known temperature.
