There's a lot of hype around lightweight and scratch resistant carbon fiber bottle cages. After trying YC DGYCASI carbon fiber water bottle cage, I was not impressed with this particular carbon fiber cage or carbon fiber cages in general. + This cage is lightweight with smooth edges all over. for a large head hex bolt.+ The smooth edges won't scratch or mar plastic water bottles like metal cages.+ There is a lip on the top of the cage that points to a notch on most bike water bottles.- But the top thread slot is not extended to increase/decrease the height of the cage. The cage body cannot be permanently expanded to increase the diameter. The body is flexible for a wider bottle as the cage opening stretches on contact, but it springs back to its original shape making it difficult to reinsert the bottle mid-ride. Smaller bottles rattle as there is no way to decrease the cage diameter as there is a set mold diameter. - Narrower bottles may fall on uneven ground. - Carbon fiber can break if bent past the breaking point. The diameter of the aluminum cage can be increased or decreased as the aluminum retains its shape when stretched or compressed. There are lightweight aluminum bottle cages that are just as light and durable as carbon bottle cages. Aluminum cages are therefore suitable for a wide variety of bottles. However, carbon fiber cages work best for certain size/shape bottles. But good luck finding the perfect crate bottle. In my opinion it's not worth the price of the expensive carbon fiber frames and the disadvantages of the many water bottles I have.
