Review on 🚚 HYPERAX Iridium M Steel Cargo Roof Rack Kayak Carrier with Cargo Net, Wind Fairing, and Lock - Heavy Duty Rooftop Cargo Basket by Dave Baker

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Overall not a bad stance but a few tweaks/upgrades will make it great.

**Quick Update** I re-tightened the bolts connecting the halves and added 20mm urethane exhaust hangers under the cross members outside of the mounting points and added washers to the mounting brackets (kit only comes with split rings for mounting hardware that stick in the slot and stretch the bar causing it to flex more than it should (see pic). It's damn strong and stiff now and I'm glad I can camp" version .Packaging: Well packaged and all hardware well organized From the factory it came well protected in the box/own plastic bag (no visible paint chips inside).Instructions/Assembly: The instructions were some of the best I've seen for something like this.Clear Pictures, instructions well written.Assembly was straightforward and relatively easy. The vein issue I had was one of the heads of the hex bolts snapping off and was. All others were ok but the one that was completely ripped off was for removable top rails/supports so now it's stuck at 2/3 and can't be removed Construction and design: large and overall well made/executed. All parts/holes lined up perfectly and the welds and powder coat looked good. There are a few design decisions that could have caused major problems. Online: 1) The two halves of the basket just abut and are bolted with a pair of thick U's -shaped metal plastic liners running along the butt ends, but the tolerances of these brackets leave a small gap between the bearings and between the brackets and the basket frame. Once mounted on the roof rack, you will see that the basket sags slightly in the middle when you put some weight on it. 2) The slotted strips where you attach the fasteners should be thicker metal or have better reinforcement along the entire length. After installing it on my machine you can see it flexing/twisting with moderate weight/force. 3) The bottom rails at the link ends had to be made of thicker metal tubing, the same size as that used for the perimeter, or oriented vertically rather than flat to make them more resistant to downward forces/flexing. All of this results in a basket that isn't as strong or stiff as it could be, and if you give it a little shake while it's installed in your car, you'll see it flex and wobble at all those trouble spots . Not sure how it will hold up over the long term, especially with regular use. My old cart, a Rhino Rhino Rack X Tray clone, was rock solid. Noise: I didn't hear any noticeable wind or road/freeway noise for about 60 miles. The included wind fairing is made of powder-coated metal. This should stand up better than the plastic options (the plastic basket on my old basket broke when hit by a rock). steal the basket. You also get a stretchable mesh to protect your load. *** Customer Support Update *** Customer service was outstanding. I contacted them about a screw issue and they responded quickly and were very helpful. They work directly with their engineers to resolve issues and they provided me with a video that they made specifically for my situation. There weren't any reviews when I bought this so I took a chance as I liked that the basket can be easily removed to carry kayaks/paddle boards. Overall I am happy with my purchase. But time will tell how much I love this attitude. For now I'm giving it 4 stars and will update accordingly as I use more of it.
