I use them for outdoor Halloween decorations to prevent theft. Several life-size horror movie guys are sitting on chairs on my porch. I tied a rope to the back of each guy's head and stretched it behind the chair that this alarm is attached to. If something moves, the rope pulls the magnet away from the alarm clock and the disturbing children run away. The sound won't make your ears bleed, but it's loud enough to draw attention and be heard from afar. They are not waterproof. Use them indoors or under the covers. I suppose they work well as cheap door alarms too :)
