Review on πŸ“» AnyTone AT-778UV Transceiver Mobile Radio: Dual Band 25W VHF/UHF VOX Vehicle Car Radio with Cable - Enhanced Communication and Versatility by Michael Hemmig

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Be aware of RF energy emitted from under the plastic housing cover.

So I took the top cover off and found it was plastic and any good radio amateur knows that plastic doesn't stop the HF from flying out of the case. So now you know how cheap this radio is. The case had to be all metal, even if the radio had to pay $5 more. I take some copper foil and line the lid with it. The search for software took a long time. The first software I got was for the exact name of the radio but it complained it was the wrong radio software. Then I searched all the websites for a long time until I found a working version of the software. So why not put a small CD with the appropriate radio programming software in the box. Again a cost-saving method that again gives them a bad rating. The radio looks good and takes a little longer to program compared to my Icom radios. Well I have a degree in electronics and radio is a very far cry from Icom or Yaesu or even Kenwood radio. You can easily detach the bezel to move it to the dashboard. It would be possible for me and a few others, but it would take some time and some electronics to get it working properly. An advantage is that you can program the desired frequency range. The radio can switch to GMRS frequencies if you wish, but it is not approved by the FCC to do so. The radio comes with a programming cable and bracket. I'd suggest a fan in the radio if you're happy chewing on a rag at a full 25 watts. I have to say this is the worst Anytone radio I have and I have others. Tonight I installed 22 repeaters and changed a few buttons. Tomorrow I will check and measure the performance. I'll update this review after I start using it if I find anything out of the ordinary other than RF leaking out of the case. This can lead to strange consequences in some cars with on-board computers, which are almost all new cars and trucks.
