As a federal contractor, I had to go through security checkpoints on a daily basis. The butterfly X Ray friendly design made that process a little easier, but the slim and compact design is a double edge sword. It fits all the components for the computer efficiently, but other items for the commute would not fit well. No exterior pocket for a water bottle/coffee mug, limited room if you were going to bring lunch or an additional layer if the weather was going to be unpredictable.The computer sleeve is well padded and good for a slim to medium sized laptop (like a Macbook Air) but had trouble zipping closed on a larger 17" laptop. The second compartment is good for papers or files, third pocket holds mouse, phone, pens and sundries. Fourth pocket fits a 9" tablet, but lacks the felt interior. Fifth pocket is perfect for boarding pass/ passport. However, only the computer compartment is designed to be locked. Sixth compartment on the bottom, I use for power cables.The construction and material are very durable. I've owned this for 2 years though a fair amount of travel and it shows very little sign of wear. This is great for electronics if you have another bag for other items, but not recommended as an all in one commuter backpack.
