Review on πŸ”’ Mic-Lock Microphone Blocker (5 Pack) – Signal Blocking Device (3.5mm) for Laptops, Smartphones, Tablets, and Desktop Computers - Advanced Data Security, Privacy Protection, and Counter Surveillance Equipment by Kevin Bigelow

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It passed all my tests.

I ordered 3 packs to see if it really works. Now I want to get 10 packs from the start. So I have 13. I tested Mic-Lock on Samsung Galaxy S7 and MacBook Pro. For the Galaxy S7, I called my phone without Mic-Lock installed and I was able to hear myself. During the same phone conversation, I activated the microphone lock and the sound disappeared. On a MacBook Pro I tested it by recording with Audacity. Without the Mic Lock installed, the surround sound was picked up by the internal microphone. After connecting the Mic-Lock, the recording signal became flat. I also tested it with a Conshine headset adapter for CTIA headsets with separate headphone and mic jacks, 3.5mm stereo audio jack, male and 2 headset Y-splitter mic jacks. The Blue and Audacity adapter cable picked up room noise with the internal microphone even though the microphone jack was plugged in. Even with the mic lock plugged into the mic-in splitter and headphones at the same time, Audacity still picked up room noise through the internal mic, which seemed odd. I also connected the Bose headphone mic jack to a MacBook Pro with a headphone jack. the end is not connected to anything and the internal microphone is still recording. Of the various headphone and mic jack configurations I tried, only the mic lock stopped the sound. While only Mic-Lock stops user-accessible noise, I'd be very surprised if it could prevent the NSA from secretly activating your microphone. As Edward Snowden said, the NSA can activate any component of your device, camera, microphone, etc. no matter what device is being used. However, I feel better with it than without. By the way, remember that your speakers also act as microphones, including your headphones. If you don't physically turn off the speakers, they can be used as microphones to monitor you.
