Varnish before applying
This is a great quality product. It sticks well. Just make sure you clean the surface before applying EGA. I'm only giving it two stars for durability because after a winter full of road salt in Chicago it looked completely rusted and lost its luster. And as a veteran, you can't have an ugly looking EGA. So I bought another one and gave it several coats of Rustoleum Clear Coat. Let's see how he handles another winter in Chicago.
