Handles the load without complaint

Installed a 2000 lb Champion 12003 winch on a Ford Transit Connect van in a space normally occupied by two center row passenger seats. A local sheet metal fabricator has developed a strong but inexpensive custom winch mount held in place by recycled saddle bolts. The app is a bit quirky and probably not what Champion envisioned for their product. Powered by a 12V marine battery, the winch hoists a 350-pound vintage Hammond organ (on cart) up a metal wheelchair ramp and into the back of the van.

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Slightly torn

Yes, another update. The reverse option fixed itself. And stopped working again. SO I CAN REPEAT IT SMOOTHLY AND IT GOES COMPLETELY OFF THE DRUM WITHOUT WARNING! IT WAS NOT EVEN ON THE GAS. ONLY BACK AT 1 MPH SHOULD TAKE IT OUT AND SEE IF IT IS POSSIBLE TO FIX AT ALL! The screws are of poor quality but for some reason every grade 8 screw I tried didn't work to replace them. I believe they are 5/6 but I've tried several thread steps and none worked which is odd. The good thing is that it doesn't

Pros
  • Certified
Cons
  • Cable shorter than others

I made a custom lift for the rear of the mower and it was the perfect accessory. I'm a retired tow truck driver and have used a winch every day for the past 15 years. This little guy is a bit noisy and slow, but that's from a guy who uses professional hydraulic winches. I had almost 900 pounds on it and I didn't mind, but the mower did. I used it to pull fence posts out of the ground, both metal and 4" round wood posts. BTW, the instructions say not to use it as an elevator. It's already a year

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • weak
