Review on Devialet Phantom Reactor 900 Wireless by David Plunkett

Great sound and really incredible for its size. I have a high end main system from Martin Logan, Pass Labs etc and am an audiophile with 40 years of experience. To be honest I had my doubts given its size but was pleasantly surprised. The initial setup was very easy and up and running within 5 minutes. Incredible build quality. Definitely give it at least 10 hours of music before serious listening as it was fairly flat when first turned on, but as we listened you could hear the bass settle down and the highs becoming less brittle and open. It looks so cool and will definitely be a conversation starter. Bought as a portable device for use in my home gym, backyard BBQ area and beyond, weight was a consideration to avoid using larger equipment. On the negative side. 2 Bluetooth devices cannot be connected at the same time. If you lose the Bluetooth connection, you have to reconnect manually each time. Negative issues will be fixed with firmware updates in the future. Given that it's just released, there's hope on that front. The January 6 update does not stay connected to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. If I use the device and don't use it for a few hours, the app doesn't find the device again and has to either turn it off or restart it as a new device every day. update from 8. This morning I walked through the entire process from bed listening to Lady Gaga a foot away from the reactor with the Bluetooth and WiFi on and it completely stopped working. I should note that I have a 1000Mbps tri-band router at home and am using an Apple XSMax so there is no excuse for these issues. I really got to appreciate the sound of this little guy. I would ask the gentleman who says there are other better devices in this price range or below to let me know what they are? I tried Naim MUSO, Martin Logan, Audio Engine and more and nothing worked. It was more important for me that I bought it to move from my bedside table to my bedroom to an outdoor patio, and the form factor is second to none. It's so easy to move. So things bring me to the second part of this. I contacted Devialet in France and it was an incredible pleasure dealing with them. While time zone differences sometimes cause a day's delay between emails, they've been everywhere. They went to management and engineers, called me several times but couldn't reproduce the problem there. I think I just have a bad block. There is incredible support and the sound and shape will absolutely encourage me to get another one. For this reason I have increased the stars to 4 but will update as events develop. Dealing with the manufacturer was amazing. They were appalled at my problem and sent me another device on loan direct from France to ensure they fix the connection issues. The new block worked perfectly. I will say that the Revain packaging was very mediocre compared to what I got from Devialet itself. Revain placed the main box inside another box, twice the size it should have been, with a few sheets of paper for the unit to hang around during shipping.
