Review on Sea Dog 327199 1 Removable Clamps by Michael Tran

Revainrating 4 out of 5

What are those two weird little washers for?

I am installing solar panels on a sailboat slider. The clamps are excellent, IMO. There is one important point to note that may not be obvious to some users. The clamps come with a few small parts: screws, lock washers, thumbscrews, and two odd looking gray washers with small ridges on the inner radius. don't throw them away! These washers are locking washers for the thumbscrew clamps and must be installed inside the clamp to prevent accidental dropping of the thumbscrew when the clamp is loosened. As a seaman I can tell you no matter where you drop something on deck it will undoubtedly always go overboard, so those little lock washers are crucial. , they are secured against twisting, but can slip out when you attach the bracket to the mounting plate. This leads you to believe that you have a bent nut or that something strange is going on when you try to tighten the mounting bolts. The nylock will not catch on the screw when pushed out. Just keep that in mind as you collect them. It would be better if the nylocks were anti-pop and also anti-rotation IMO. Otherwise I think it's a great solution for mounting small (I have 100W) arrays. I might be a little apprehensive if you went to significantly larger/heavier arrays.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
