It's been a while since I bought a brand new cast product so I was hoping I wouldn't have a problem flavoring it. I think I oiled it and must have left it in the oven for a few hours. It seemed to help! I have several skillets and a large skillet, but I wanted a skillet with a burner, so this fitted the bill. I wash cast iron but don't soak it in water; more like soapy water. I also found that tomato products are not good for pans. I used to fry a hamburger and add sauce, but that ruined the flavor. I have a small pan that I use for eggs; I can make perfect super easy eggs with this thing. works better than any of those "green" pans on the market today. These things are a waste of money; Lifespan is too short and cast iron lasts forever. The back is also good for frying bacon; all the fat goes into the containers normally.
