I never write a review let alone an unfavorable one. But I was forced to write this as this item gets consistently good reviews (which is why we bought it in late November 2017). We bought this product to test the temperature of our wood stove. He always groomed, didn't let himself fall, didn't let him get warm, last spring, at the end of the heating season, he began to behave strangely. I thought it was a low battery, took the battery out for a season and kept it in the original box. Fast forward to this heating season and I'm installing a new battery, the digital display looked like it was on its last breath and visually fading in and out. Hmm, I thought. Maybe the battery is not fresh. So I took this battery out and put it back in the box and waited for the next time I'm in town at the store to buy a new battery. We added a new battery and now the device life is zero. It's officially dead, it's not a battery issue after all. So a year later the thing isn't working so I'm going to buy a new device which isn't made by that company at the moment. Shame!
